Saturday Grab Bag: Mashup

Mashup:

Here are some great links on writing, the industry, and all things book related. Some are serious, and some are just downright hilarious. We highly recommend you read them!

  • Mentally Preparing for Revisions
    – A great post from author Janice Hardy about the six main points of revisions. For those of you just about ready to jump in, or who are already there, this offers some great reminders.
  • How to Write a Novel
    – An oldie but a goodie from the amazingly knowledgeable Nathan Bransford.
  • Character Questionnaire
    – Having trouble keeping your characters consistent? Here’s a great tool to help keep them in line.
  • ‘High Concept’ Defined Once and For All
    – Ever wondered what an agent meant when they said they wanted something ‘high concept?’ Well, now you know!
  • Writing Teen Angst
    – Author Julie Cross talks about the importance of writing believable teenage emotions.
  • Josh Groban Sings Kanye West’s Tweets
    – If you haven’t seen this already, you should probably watch it. No, it has nothing to do with publishing, but it fulfills the ‘hilarious’ requirement for this post 😉

I just discovered this website and have to say it’s freakin’ AWESOME! Thanks for the grab bag–I’ll definitely be looking into Character Questionnaire and Writing Teen Angst.

    Cheers!

I’m loving all these links! So helpful, and I especially love the character questionnaire. It’s fun filling it out in my character’s voice, the one I’m sort of struggling to find WHO exactly she is, so this came at the right time. 🙂

I definitely bookmarked the questionnaire to fill out this upcoming week! I figured now would be a good time, since I’m jumping into revisions soon. I’m glad someone else found the link useful! I believe Julie was the one who found it!

I’m also bookmarking that questionnaire 🙂 Speaking of links – I came across another discussion post about the possibility of the new adult market: http://inwhichagirl.blogspot.com/2011/01/im-okay-with-ya-protagonists-that-are.html

I guess I find that topic really interesting 🙂

Thanks for the link, Glaiza! I agree, that whole discussion is really interesting. We were talking about it at work the other day, actually. And it’s strange because I’ve been seeing a lot more submissions for books that could potentially be YA or adult, or have a category all their own. With the way the market’s constantly changing, who knows what’s next?
